Ka Hemp is a lifestyle clothing brand made from Hmong hemp fibre. Ka Hemp began in 2019 at Kek Noi Village, Khao Kho District, Phetchabun Province, the largest Hmong village in Thailand. The brand was founded by Mayulee Saesong or “Ka”, a chemist who has worked in the environment industry for more than 10 years.
Our Founder
Ka went on to study fashion design in order to try to bring back Hmong handicrafts and introduce them to the high fashion industry. She wanted to tell their story in a new market, especially in the modern trade market. She wanted to make sure people know how valuable Hmong handicrafts are, and to ensure fair trade practices and fair prices were paid to the Hmong people who love their handicrafts.
Ka’s goal is to create Hmong handicrafts as a main occupation for the Hmong community, including the new generation.
This includes hemp planting, hemp weaving, candle writing, indigo dyeing, and embroidery using various techniques, all from the wisdom of the people in her Hmong community.
Ka dreams of seeing a self-reliant and sustainable community. She believes that Hmong handicrafts are very valuable and can generate good income for the people in the community, including all Hmong women so they can play key a role in Hmong handicraft industry.
“All this will create sustainability for their family and the Hmong community.”
